Zaporizhzhia, Ukraine: Russian drone strikes damaged residential buildings, a university facility and a shopping center in Zaporizhzhia overnight on September 21, 2026, according to Ukrainian regional authorities. Several civilians were injured and emergency crews were deployed across the affected areas.

Residential Buildings and University Damaged

The overnight Russian drone attack on Zaporizhzhia damaged two apartment buildings, with fires reported at some locations. A university building and a shopping center were also affected.

The city's historic university infrastructure was among the damaged sites. Reports said the oldest surviving building of Zaporizhzhia National University, dating back to the early 20th century, was hit during the attack.

Emergency services worked through the night to extinguish fires, assist residents and assess the damage.

Attacks Reported Across 10 Ukrainian Regions

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Russian forces struck 10 Ukrainian regions during the evening and overnight period.

According to his statement, five people were initially reported injured in Zaporizhzhia, while a woman was killed in a separate drone strike in Lozova, Kharkiv region, where three other people were also reported injured.

Regional authorities later reported that the number of injured in Zaporizhzhia had risen, illustrating that casualty figures were still being updated as emergency operations continued.
